Senior Year Done Right

College Transfer Counseling for Students in the Bay Area

How StrivePath Helps Transfer Students Get It Right

Senior year moves fast. Between applications, essays, deadlines, and decisions, there is a lot to manage all at once. Students who go into it with a clear plan handle it differently than those who figure it out as they go.

StrivePath works with seniors through every stage of the college admissions process. From building a smart college list to submitting the final application, we stay involved the whole way. Your student works one-on-one with the same counselor throughout, so nothing slips through and every decision is made with the full picture in mind.

How It Works

Step 1

Assess

We take time to get to know your student's goals, grade level, and timeline. This gives us a clear starting point before we do anything else.

Step 2

Plan

We build a clear academic and college roadmap that works for your student. No two students are the same, so no two plans look alike.

Step 3

Guide

Our team supports your family at every stage of the process. We stay with your student from middle school all the way through senior year.

What We Work On With Your Student

Transfer Strategy and Credit Alignment

The biggest mistake transfer students make is assuming their credits will transfer cleanly. We review your coursework against the requirements of your target schools and help you avoid taking the wrong classes. Getting this right early saves time and money.

What's included:

  • Credit evaluation against target school requirements
  • Course planning to fill gaps before applications go in
  • Academic calendar and unit requirement review
  • Protecting GPA and academic standing through the transfer process

School Selection and Program Research

Choosing where to apply as a transfer student requires different research than a first-time applicant. Transfer admit rates, program availability, and major-specific requirements all vary significantly by school. We use real transfer data to help you build a list that is both ambitious and realistic.

What's included:

  • School list development using transfer admission data
  • Research on program availability and major prerequisites
  • Comparing academic fit, campus culture, and career outcomes
  • Identifying schools with strong transfer student support programs

TAG and TAP Guidance

For California community college students, the Transfer Admission Guarantee and Transfer Admission Planner are two of the most powerful tools available. Most students either don't know about them or miss the requirements through small but costly errors. We make sure neither of those things happens.

What's included:

  • TAG eligibility review for UC campuses
  • TAP requirement tracking and submission support
  • Deadline management for California transfer pathways
  • Maximizing guaranteed admission opportunities in the UC system

Personal Statement and Essay Support

The transfer personal statement is not the same as a first-year essay. Colleges want to know why you are leaving, where you are going, and why now. We help students write a clear, honest answer to those questions in a way that holds up on its own.

What's included:

  • Personal statement strategy and angle development
  • Draft feedback and revision across multiple rounds
  • Supplemental essay support for each school
  • Final proofreading before submission deadlines

Application Management and Deadlines

Transfer application deadlines are often earlier than students expect and vary significantly by school. Missing one can close a door for an entire year. We keep every application on track so nothing is left to the last minute.

What's included:

  • Application calendar with school-specific deadlines
  • Requirement tracking across all target schools
  • Review of each application before submission
  • Managing letters of recommendation timing and requests

Major Selection and Career Direction

Choosing the wrong major as a transfer applicant can hurt admission odds at specific programs. We help students choose a major that reflects genuine interest and aligns with where they are most likely to be admitted and succeed. That clarity makes the whole application stronger.

What's included:

  • Major exploration and alignment with career goals
  • Understanding how major choice affects transfer admission odds
  • Program research within target schools
  • Long-term planning for academic success after transfer

Thank you, StrivePath! As a mom navigating our first college process, I can’t say enough about Saumya—she was patient, supportive, reassuring, and kind from start to finish. She built a realistic summer plan for my son that helped us complete the college research and essay work early, so when October 1 arrived, our applications were already submitted. The organization and calm she brought to the process were a huge relief. She reassured my son that he would have many options and celebrated each college admittance with him. We felt guided every step of the way. Get ready for Kid #2!

 FAQs

Get answers to the top questions about our academic and college planning services.

  • Who is college transfer counseling for?

It is for two groups. The first is community college students planning to transfer to a four-year university, including through California's TAG and TAP programs. The second is students already at a four-year school who want to transfer to a different one. Both paths require different strategies, and we work with students in both situations.

  • What is TAG and how does it work?

TAG stands for Transfer Admission Guarantee. It is a California-specific program that guarantees admission to certain UC campuses for community college students who meet specific GPA, coursework, and unit requirements. Not all UC campuses participate, and the requirements vary by campus and major. We help students navigate the process so the guarantee actually holds.

  • Can you help with four-year to four-year transfers?

Yes. Students transferring from one four-year school to another face a different process than community college students. Admissions offices evaluate your college transcript differently, and the essay questions focus on your reasons for leaving. We work with both types of transfer applicants and adjust our approach accordingly.

  • How important is major selection for a transfer application?

Very important. Some programs at certain schools are highly competitive for transfer applicants. Choosing the wrong major can hurt your odds significantly. We help students think through major selection with admission data in mind, not just personal interest alone.

  • What GPA do I need to transfer?

It depends on the school and the major. Competitive UC programs may require a 3.5 or higher. Others are more flexible. We assess your GPA against realistic targets and help you build a list where your academic profile is a genuine fit.

  • How long does the transfer process take to plan for?

At minimum, one full semester of planning before your application deadline. For TAG, the planning starts earlier. The sooner you reach out, the more options are available. Waiting until the semester before you plan to transfer often limits what we can do. Book a free consultation to see where you stand today.

  • Do you work with transfer students in my area?

Yes. We work with students both in person and remotely across the Bay Area. We have dedicated pages for students in Fremont, Oakland, Mountain View, Cupertino, San Ramon, Walnut Creek, San Mateo, Moraga, and Mill Valley. If your city is not on the list, reach out and we can talk through options.
